Lynne Jones
Lynne is very proud to be able to say she is Old Windsor ‘through and through’. She first moved into ‘The Oxford Blue’ with her parents in 1979 and then she and her husband Kevin bought a house in Old Windsor nearly 30 years ago.
Lynne worked with her parents and was involved in bookkeeping and the financial aspects of running the business. As a result she gravitated towards accountancy after leaving school. She has held management positions in national companies, worked for British Airways, and for a couple of years she managed her parents’ public house. Lynne now works independently and provides bookkeeping services for local businesses.
Lynne was a keen player for Windsor Hockey Club for 33 years, and held committee positions for many years such as Ladies Club Captain and Treasurer, but now enjoys rather gentler activities – walking her dog in the Great Park and socialising with friends and family. She is an avid reader with wide ranging tastes from Scandi-noir to political biography, and everything in-between.
Lynne joined the Parish Council in 2003, was soon appointed Deputy Lead Member for Policy and Finance, and has been the Lead Member for 18 years. Although this is a voluntary position there are very strict regulations and procedures governing the spending of public money, and the role demands responsibility together with high standards of professionalism and probity.
She was first elected to the Borough Council in 2011 and is currently Leader of the Local Independent Group, a member of the Corporate Scrutiny panel and Chair of the RBWM Audit panel. These roles are well suited to Lynne’s particular skills and strengths in analysis, evaluation, and asking the right probing questions. In her role at the Borough Lynne has presented the Opposition’s response to the Budget for the last 11 years, as well as championing all residents, from Old Windsor and across the Borough, to ensure that their voices are heard on subjects such as housing, community, green belt, planning, child protection, parking, education and healthcare.
It is often an overused word but Lynne really is passionate about appreciating and protecting the area she lives in. She values the strong sense of community in Old Windsor, the Great Park and ‘The Boltons’ and is determined to represent all residents to the best of her ability. There is still work to do to ensure that Old Windsor Ward is fully recognised as a cohesive geographic and heritage area: many residents have strong links with Windsor Castle and the Crown Estate and these are a source of considerable pride.
During the last 12 years Lynne has taken on and worked hard to resolve many complex and difficult local issues. Things often take time and Lynne is very grateful that residents have been prepared to trust her, support her, and work with her for the long haul. Her wealth of experience and good relationships with Borough officers enables her to provide residents with an accessible and respected ‘face’ to represent their views at the Town Hall. Lynne wants nothing more than to be able to continue serving the people of Old Windsor Ward for a further term.
